Sadly Kodak recently announced it has given up on the camera and camcorder market entirely. The iconic company has been going through some hard times and now will focus on making money, licensing out its many patients.
In response to that, the price for the popular ZI8 pocket camcorder, popular for its auxilary microphone jack, has substantially jump. On many sites, expect to pay $450 dollars for the few remaining cameras left.
I have written about my excitement about the Playsport models, Generation 1 and 2. These waterproof camcorders take great HD footage and can be immersed in up to 10 feet of water. I’ve used this model to capture some great underwater footage. See the video here.
The question is, as supplies for this model dwindle, will the price on these nifty camcorders rise as well? If you thought about purchasing a great waterproof camcorder, now is the time before they run out.
I lament the fact that Kodak, a household word in cameras is now abandoning them. There digital cameras never seemed to catch on with the public in a big way. Perhaps they jumped on the digital movement a little too late. Probably they were a victim of their own tremendous success in the film market. Even songs were made about Kodachrome. Either way, it is a sign of the time, another American manufacturer giving up making products that were already made somewhere else.http://www.about.me/harveypoling
